Jamie Vallejo is a native of Houston, TX and has been studying various styles of dance for 25 years. Growing up as a competitive performer, she trained in ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop and Latin rhythms. Ms. Vallejo currently directs the dance program at KIPP Austin Collegiate — part of the nationally recognized “Knowledge Is Power Program” network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public schools dedicated to preparing students in underserved communities for success in college and in life. Jamie serves as a choreographer and contest judge for American Dance/Drill Team School. She was first introduced to West African dance in 2000 by Suzannah Kincannon (co-founder of Lannaya) while enrolled as a student at the University of Texas. Jamie joined Lannaya in 2013 and hopes to travel to Africa in the near future to further her knowledge of this dance form.
