Training and Background

A native of Dallas, Texas, E’ja Alexander developed her dance foundation at the Dallas Black Dance Academy from January 2018 to May 2020, where she was a member of both the Junior and Senior Performing Ensembles. Since joining Lannaya in 2024, she has trained under the guidance of Souleymane Solo Sana, deepening her understanding of the drum and dance traditions of Mali.

Education

E’ja earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance with a minor in Health and Kinesiology from the University of Texas at Austin. Her academic studies complement her artistic pursuits, blending movement with a focus on health and physical wellness.

Work Experience

Since 2019, E’ja has been actively involved in various dance and choreographic engagements, including serving as a Teaching Assistant at the Dallas Black Dance Academy; and interning with Forklift Danceworks in Austin, TX. These roles have allowed her to grow as both a performer and a collaborator, contributing to her development as a well-rounded artist.

Performance Highlights

E’ja recently performed with Lannaya in a dynamic collaboration that celebrated the artistry and shared traditions of West African and Boricua dance. This cultural exchange, created in partnership with the Puerto Rican Cultural Center, culminated in Celebrando 2024 – Salsa & Heritage Festival, Madre Patria África.

E’ja Alexander is a native Texan with a lifelong passion for the arts. Inspired by the vibrant cultural scene in her hometown of Dallas, she is committed to using her artistry to inspire others and promote cultural understanding through dance. She aspires to further her knowledge of West African dance and contribute to Lannaya’s mission of cultural preservation and education.
