Traditional Malian Dance with Solo Sana is back!

Texas residents! Experience this annual deep culture dive and learn firsthand, and in depth about traditional Malian dance and music with Solo Sana, an ambassador of West African dance heritage and culture. Class will be taught to live drumming by local drummers versed in Malian rhythms, and led by West African Master Percussionist, Aboubacar Sylla. ALL LEVELS WELCOME. Come with your lappas, sweatpants, notebooks, bpa-free water bottles, Tiger balm and everything else you’ll need to be in class and absorb this knowledge!

Solo is an accomplished Master Dancer and Teacher, dedicated to the preservation of traditional Malian dance, music, and culture. For over twenty years he has been committed to maintaining an accurate representation and disbursement of traditional information, movement, and rhythm. He is renowned internationally as an ambassador of West African dance heritage and culture. This workshop series is presented in partnership by Lannaya Drum & Dance and Dance Africa Fest.

  • FREE Lecture and demonstration with Solo Sana and Aboubacar Sylla, 4 pm – 6:00 pm. Join us for Embodied Rhythm: Exploring Traditional West African Music & Movement. An exploration of the cultural context and stewardship of Traditional West African Percussion, Music and Dance.
