Apprentice Dancer
Liana Hernandez is a singer and music lover living in Austin, TX. Music has always spoken to her; from a young age, she remembers dancing around the living room to Madonna and belting R&B ballads in her childhood home. After singing in choirs throughout school, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Performance from Wesleyan University, where she studied everything from Gregorian chanting to Bach to South Indian Film Music, and sang with an acapella group, a Jazz improv group, and a salsa band. A class in West African Music and Culture naturally led her to take a drumming class with Ghanian master drummer Abraham Adzenyah. Once she realized that the drum calls communicated with dancers, she tried the dance class and fell in love. Since moving to Austin 5 years ago, she has studied and performed with master dancer Jean-Claude Lessou from Ivory Coast, studied and performed Afro-Latin dance (mainly Afro-Cuban), and is excited to join Lannaya in 2022 to study new rhythms and dances and continue to express her love for music physically.
